My beautiful bride recently picked up a Spanish / English Good News parallel Bible.

At first I was a bit skeptical – with a name like the “Good News Bible”.. I mean, come on – is that a marketing gimmick or what?

But then I started reading it (the English side… sigh… unfortunately my Spanish is not up to par). You know what?  I really like it.

It is a simple and profound translation of the Bible. Yelp – that’s right. It is a translation and not a paraphrase.

What makes it cool is that the translators used the Dynamic equivalence style of translation. Basically, instead of translating it "word for word", they translated it "thought for thought."

Personally, this "thought for thought" style is the way to go as there are times when we can get to caught up on the "word" used instead of the heart behind the "word".

Of course, it's always good to have both…but if even a choice, I don't know. I may have to give away my NIV and move on over.
