Christ’s Genealogy: The Alleged Discrepancy – Part 12 of 12

Today we are concluding our study on the genealogy of Jesus (much cheering all across the nation!!).

Recap

  • We have look at modern scholars who state that Matthew was tracing the blood of Joseph, while Luke was tracing Mary’s line. This view has some holes as the text does not state that Luke was looking at Mary’s line… yet it also removes the  Jehoiachin Problem and it gives us Jesus’ blood genealogy.
  • On the other side, we have heard from Africanus about the ancient Church tradition that both Matthew and Luke where dealing with Joseph’s line. Augustine also added his voice to this argument with the statement that it does not matter if we know Mary’s blood line or not as we know she was of a priestly and kingly blood due to her relationships with Elisabeth.

Personal Conclusion

Personally, I place a higher value of the writings of the Africanus, Augustine, and Eusebius then I do on modern scholars. Especially ones who are trying to justify a view that only started during the Reformation…

So, for me, both genealogies are talking about Joseph and not Mary. Laughing

It has been a long journey, but I hope you all enjoyed it – ‘cause the Lord knows that I had a ton of fun (assuming that you can measure enjoyment using a weight measurement). Tongue out
