A Most Unusual Thing…

I saw the strangest thing last night.

Something I have never seen before.

It was an action that I have read about….

Believe in…

But have never, ever seen.

So what is this “most unusual thing”?  Well, it was – no. hold on. Let me set stage first; then I will tell you.  😀

Last night I wondered on down to the Vineyard Meridian to hear a guy from Norway named Leif Hetland speak. Leif is the founder of Global Mission Awareness and runs around with Randy Clark, Bill Johnson, Heidi Baker, Dr. RT Kendall, and Jack Taylor.

With me so far?

Through out the evening Leif spoke about the “orphan spirit” in many believers – letting us know that we have not been rejected by God, but have been called sons and daughters of the Living God. We are not orphans left to wonder through this world alone – but children of the Most High who have been called to join Him in His works in the world.

Leif also told us normal Christian life. ( i.e. Living like Jesus did.)  We, believers, have been living an abnormal life for so long we think it is “normal”. But that is not the way God sees things.

Then Leif did a most unusual thing.

He called all the kids up to the front – high school, middle school and younger; if they could walk, they came.  Looking over them, Leif started praying – asking God to take away their orphan spirit and touch their lives like never before.

All pretty “normal” stuff so far.

Then it happened.

When he was finished praying, Leif looked at the young children and told them that they where now the prayer ministry team. Speaking out some words of knowledge, Leif directed the kids across the room – telling them to go and pray for God to come.

Did you see it?

kids1He gave up control.

He empowered a bunch of teenagers, pre-teens and grade school kids to go and pray for a packed room of adults.

It wasn’t about Leif. It was about God working through His children, no matter the age. If only more of the church caught that simple truth.

At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. –Matt 18:1-4

Then little children were brought to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked those who brought them. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there. –Matt 19:13-15
