Blogosphere: Investigative Reporting

I’m good. Cool

And I say that with all humility necessary to replace all blame, pride, sin and anything else that may show up.

It’s just that I’m good.

At what you might ask?  Well, I’m good at digging up information about folks. You see, twice over the last two or three weeks a client emailed me a link to a negative blog or video post asking for information about the user. With very little to go on (as the domain whois information was hidden) I was able to piece together the name, location, age and birthdate of each blogger.

And in today’s case, I was able to find out the guy's home address, phone number, work address, job position, as well as the make, year and model of the truck he drives. Not to mention his dad’s name, his wife's name and nationality and the fact that he is currently attending college.

All pieced together from bits and pieces here and there. And none of it from his blog profile (which goes to show you that no matter how careful you are in blogosphere, you still leave a trace).[@more@]

I like this type of work.

Don’t worry – I’m not going to file a law suit or anything against this guy. My client just wanted to know who he is so they can address the customer service at their locations in that area. It’s called “customer feedback” – only done in a round about way.

Life is good. And I’m off to the races. Cool

A word from the Editor: I am now concerned about possible personal information inadvertently leaked by my client on this blog. I will have to talk to him and see if we might “clean” things up a bit…
