Bible Marketing

The other day I ran across an odd marketing slogan being used to sell a specific study Bible. The slogan claimed that the study Bible in question (a KJV Bible nonetheless) was the “most unique aid to Bible understanding available today.”

Seriously?!!!   Are you kidding me?!

We don’t need “unique”; what we need is the tried and true path of those who have walked before us. Jesus said to teach and to do what He did; St. Paul said to follow his example has he follows Jesus as well as to be careful about those who claim to bring a ‘new’ gospel that is different than the one preached by himself and the Twelve; St. John said to be careful about removing or adding anything from the letters he wrote.

We should be going back to the “ancient paths” of old as God told Jeremiah (6:16) instead of trying to find new and unique ways of understanding the Bible.

Yes, the way in which we apply Scripture to our lives may shift depending on the culture in which we live. However, the understanding of God’s word and the mission of Jesus to draw all people to Himself has NEVER CHANGED!!! In this manner, we don’t need a ‘new’ understanding of the Bible as much as we need to re-discover what God has ALWAYS been doing!

  1. I thought understanding was the Spirit’s job?

Big business, is the sale of Bibles.

& all that on a KJV!!

    1. What’s even more interesting/disturbing is that the Bible in question was endorsed by a mega-church pastor has had multiple public sex scandals over the years… Right or wrong, my reaction was, “Is this the same ‘unique’ understanding of the Bible that led you [the endorser] to have no self control and questionable moral character?!”

Yeah… not good at all… well, no good except for the publishing companies who are making $$$$ off of a non-copyrighted Bible translation. sigh…much sadness. =(
