Vehicle Racism

The winds of change have blown across the plains of Idaho leading to my first experience of vehicle racism. Frown

Pulling into parking lot of the town library, I franticly searched for an open parking space. Finally I saw a few open spaces in the row next to me – driving around the parking lot, I started to pull in when I was stopped by the sign you see to the right:

What?! Surprised

There I was – sitting in the hot sun plumping CO2 into the car trying to decided whether or not my nine year old Hyundai counts as a “fuel efficient vehicle”…. It gets 30 mpg….but then it is old…..but it get 30 mpg….she loves….she loves me not…..ok, I’ll park elsewhere….sigh… [@more@]

It was crazy! Since when does having a ton of money to buy the latest, coolest car get you a prime parking spot? Oh wait…. dumb question… Undecided

Seriously though, what constitutes as a “fuel efficient vehicle”? If the average pickup gets 12 mpg and mine gets 18 mpg – then does that make my truck a “fuel efficient vehicle”?

Or does it only refer to hybrid cars? If so, what about those cars who get upwards of 40 mpg without an electric motor? Are those now considered “gas guzzlers”?

Sigh.

I don’t know the answer – which is why I parked in another spot. However, I do know of at least one person who knows the answer our riddle:
