Skull Cathedral

Along the coast of Italy rests a city named Otranto. It's a fairly typical town despite it's location on the heal of boot.

However, there is one odd thing about this city: it's cathedral.

Walking into the cathedral, you are greeted with beautiful Medieval paintings and architecture. Everything looks great until you look up at the altar.

Lining the walls behind the altar are the skulls and bones of 800 martyrs killed during the Ottoman invasion of 1480. (photo below)
