What Would You Put On A Church Door?

On the front page of the Idaho Statesman today was a picture of a beautiful 16 foot by 10 foot by 2 foot door – carved into a master depiction of Revelations 12.

As I stood reading about this door, which is hung in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a co-worker comes over and asks what’s up. Turning the paper around I showed him the door and commented on the beautiful arrangement.

This co-work took one look at the picture and said, “Why would anyone want to put a craving of Revelations on the door of a church?”

After some thought, I responded that it was a mixture of European culture (St. Michael and the Dragon) and Mexican culture (Mary or the Our Lady of Guadalupe) – granted I stole this line from the article itself.

However, this did not satisfy co-worker… so I asked him what he would put on the door of a church. Without hesitation, he responded:

“Welcome”
